The right season depends on the kind of resort. Seaside and lake towns come alive in summer, while cities and spa towns work all year.

Seaside resorts

Monte-Carlo, Estoril, Deauville and Sanremo are at their liveliest from late spring to early autumn. For warm weather with fewer crowds and lower hotel prices, aim for May, June or September.

Lake resorts

Montreux and Velden are summer favourites, when lake swimming, boat trips and festivals are in full swing. Montreux’s Jazz Festival takes place in July, so book early if your dates overlap.

Historic cities

Venice can be visited at any time of year. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable for walking, and winter brings quieter streets and atmospheric evenings.

Spa towns

Baden-Baden is a year-round destination. In colder months, thermal baths make the perfect daytime counterpart to a night in the Kurhaus.

Tip: opening hours and venues can change with the seasons. Check each casino’s official website for current times before booking.
