The casino
The Casino de Monte-Carlo has welcomed players since the 1860s. Beyond the gaming rooms, its building houses the Salle Garnier, an opera hall by Charles Garnier, who also designed the Paris Opéra. Daytime visits let you admire the interiors without placing a bet.
Where to stay
For the full experience, book the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, which looks straight onto the casino across the Place du Casino. Monaco is small, so almost any central hotel puts you within walking distance.
Beyond the tables
Climb up to the old town on the Rock, see the changing of the guard at the Prince’s Palace, visit the Oceanographic Museum, or ride the coastal train to Menton or Nice.
Getting there
Fly into Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. From there it’s roughly 30–45 minutes by road, or take a regional train along the coast to Monaco-Monte-Carlo station.
